Golfers Head To Florida For A-10 Championship This Weekend
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The St. Bonaventure golf team will travel south this weekend for the Atlantic 10 Championship at Heron Bay Golf Club beginning on Friday and concluding on Sunday. The winner will receive the A-10's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
The 54-hole event will feature 18 holes on Friday and Saturday, with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. each day. Sunday will feature the final 18 holes, with tee times based on where both schools and individuals rank in the field heading into the last round.
The 7,268-yard, par-72 Heron Bay course – ranked as one of the Best Places to Play by Golf Digest in 2008 and 2009 – will play host to this weekend's event just outside Fort Lauderdale.
Last year, the Bonnies finished eighth in the A-10 Championship with a score of 956 at Mission Inn Golf Course at Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. Charlotte – which has won the A-10 title every year since joining the league – enters as the favorite to win its seventh straight crown this year.
The top returning golfer for the Brown and White from last year's A-10 Championship is senior Kevin Lewis, who finished in a tie for 33rd last year with a score of 240 (+25).
The Bonnies have had two weeks off since finishing fifth with a three-round team score of 911 at the Manor Intercollegiate at the Manor Resort Golf Club in Farmville, Va. The fifth-place finish is the team's best result since a fourth-place showing at the Cornell Invitational in September.
Individually, Lewis led the Bonnies with a 1-under 71, finishing in fifth overall – nine shots behind medalist Dylan Jensen of Longwood. For his efforts, Lewis was tabbed as the A-10 Co-Golfer of the Week last week.
