ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - Izaiah Brockington, a 6-foot-4 guard from Archbishop Ryan High School in Philadelphia, has signed a grant-in-aid to join the St. Bonaventure University men's basketball team, head coach Mark Schmidt has announced. Brockington will be eligible for the 2017-18 season and have four years of eligibility.

An electric playmaker for Archbishop Ryan, Brockington starred in the competitive Philadelphia Catholic League as a senior with 18.6 points per game. He was key to leading his squad to a pair of Philadelphia Catholic League semifinals at the Palestra, Ryan's first since 2008, including 23 wins and a bid in the PIAA Class 6A semifinals during his senior season. He is the third member of his senior class to commit to a Division I program, joining teammates who will play at Miami (Fla.) and Bowling Green.

Following the season, he earned First Team All-State honors for Class 6A. He completed his career as the third 1,000-point scorer in his high school's program history, finishing with 1,242 points. Also a standout on the defensive end, Brockington consistently guarded his opponent's best players. Along with leading his team in scoring, he also paced Archbishop Ryan in assists (3.1 per game) and steals (2.1) while shooting over 45 percent from the field.

"We are very excited Izaiah has decided to join the St. Bonaventure basketball family," St. Bonaventure head coach Mark Schmidt said. "He is a long and explosive wing who will excel in an up-tempo style offense.  We expect him to come in and help us at both the off guard and small forward positions upon his arrival. I am confident that Izaiah has the talent to be a productive guard in the Atlantic 10."

Brockington joins fellow freshman Tshiefu Ngalakulondi, a 6'6" forward, on the Bonnies roster this fall. In all, Schmidt's staff welcomes four newcomers including junior transfers Ndene Gueye, a 6'10" center, and 6'4" guard Jalen Poyser, who will sit out the 2017-18 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
