Xavier Smith, a 6-8 combo forward from Texas, signed a National Letter of Intent to join the St. Bonaventure men's basketball last Monday. Now, the high school senior has exploded, receiving calls from programs in the Big 12, SEC, among others. But, as depicted in this TexasHoops.com (Rivals.com from Yahoo! Sports) article, there was only one team he wanted to play for.
St. Bonaventure knew exactly what they were getting when they had 6-foot-8 Xavier Smith of Plano East/Pro Skills 17 on campus a few weeks ago. The Bonnies traveled to the Great American Shoot-Out to keep tabs on one of the more talked about unsigned senior in the state, and had him signed on Monday.
Monday, Smith said he received calls from programs in the Big 12, SEC, and many others, but he felt that there was one team that knew him best.
"St Bonaventure had me on a visit, and were at my games," Smith said. "It was them all along, and I was just comfortable out there playing hard and without pressure."
Xavier added that the Bonnies was his first choice and he didn't care about the high-level teams.
"St Bonaventure wanted me, it was that simple. I didn't want to play games and try to figure things out about other programs and what they wanted out of me. I like the coaches and campus and players at St Bonaventure. It is a perfect fit for me and it was them all along."
