After Record Performance, Mosley Named A-10 Player of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Following a week in which he averaged 27.5 points and set the record for most points ever by a St. Bonaventure player in an Atlantic 10 Conference game, senior Eric Mosley was named the A-10 Player of the Week by league officials on Monday.

Mosley scored 39 points on Wednesday against Massachusetts to set the record in a 99-94 Bonaventure victory. The guard then added 16 points and a team-best five assists in a 78-71 win at Duquesne on Saturday, helping guide the Bonnies to consecutive wins for just the second time in the last two months.

The 39 point-performance – which efficiently came on 12-18 shooting, 5-8 from 3-point range and 10-10 from the free-throw line – is tied for the most points by an A-10 player in a game this year. Additionally, no Bonaventure player has scored more points in a regulation 40-minute game since Greg Sanders tallied 46 against Detroit in 1977.

For the two games last week, Mosley shot 17-28 (60.7 percent) from the floor, 7-14 (50 percent) from 3-point range, 14-15 (93.3 percent) from the free-throw line, dished out six assists and tallied 55 points.

The Player of the Week honor is the first of Mosley's career, and also the first St. Bona player to receive any conference accolade this season.

The Louisville, Ky. native has been scorching over the last five games, averaging 24.2 points per game and shooting 50 percent (40-80) from the floor, including a 45-percent clip from 3-point range (19-42). During that five-game stretch, Mosley has jumped from 98th on St. Bonaventure's all-time scoring list to 80th. He's also increased his scoring average from 10.0 before the stretch to its current 12.7 average.

Behind the transfer's play, the Bonnies have evened their record at 13-13 overall and moved to 6-7 in A-10 play. SBU has opened up a 1.5-game lead on 13th-place Dayton, and is right in the thick of A-10 Championship seeding in the parity-driven A-10. Despite its sub-.500 record in conference play, 12th-place St. Bonaventure is only 1/2 game out of the 8th position as all four teams ahead of it have identical 6-6 records.

One of those four teams is Charlotte, and the Bonnies host the 49ers in a vital A-10 matchup at the Reilly Center on Saturday night. The game will be the lone contest of the week for SBU, which is on its second bye week of the conference season.
