ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure junior outfielder Sam Fuller has earned 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-American Third Team recognition as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), officials announced Thursday.
He is one of 33 players nationally to earn Academic All-America honors and one of only nine outfielders to receive the nod. He is also the only Atlantic 10 baseball player to be named a CoSIDA Academic All-American.
Fuller owns a 3.98 cumulative grade-point average and is a biology/history double major. During his college career, he has been a member of the University Dean's List and Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll every semester. Fuller was eligible for All-America honors after being named to the District 1 All-Academic First Team last month.
On the field, he enjoyed a breakout season this spring as he earned a starting role for the first time. He started 34 of 39 games played, ranking third on the team with a .282 batting average along with a .357 on-base percentage. He led the Bonnies with 13 stolen bases and committed just one error in the outfield, posting a .987 fielding percentage.
Fuller stands in elite territory among St. Bonaventure student-athletes, becoming just the fourth baseball player in program history to be named a CoSIDA Academic All-American and is the first Bonnies athlete in any sport to claim the award from the organization since 2008.
