BUFFALO, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure baseball team's game at Canisius on Wednesday afternoon has been canceled due to snow, and its weekend series scheduled at home against Butler has been pushed back.
The Canisius game is not expected to be made up, and the Bonnies and Butler will now play their three-game series on Saturday and Sunday instead of Thursday-Saturday.
The Bonnies made the trip to Canisius earlier in the day Wednesday and were about to take batting practice (pictured) when a band of lake-effect snow came through the area, covering the field not even an hour before the first pitch was scheduled to be thrown at 3 p.m. Canisius was previously scheduled to face Bonaventure at the end of April at McGraw-Jennings Field.
Snow is also the cause of the Bonnies moving back their second Atlantic 10 Conference series of the year this weekend against Butler. With snow still remaining on the turf and more snow and cold temperatures expected on Thursday and Friday, the Bonnies and Bulldogs are now scheduled to play a doubleheader beginning at Noon on Saturday before concluding the series on Sunday at Noon.
Weather, specifically snow and cold temperatures, has wreaked havoc on SBU's schedule to date. Beginning with its doubleheader postponement last Tuesday at home against Niagara and continuing through the Butler series, the Bonnies will have been forced to postpone, cancel or relocate each of their last nine games.
St. Bonaventure and Niagara have rescheduled their March 19 doubleheader for a single game on May 1. The Bonnies were then expected to open their A-10 schedule at home last weekend, but were forced to move their three-game series with Xavier to the Musketeers' home field in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Any additional changes to the Butler series will be announced immediately on Twitter @BonniesBaseball as well as GoBonnies.com.
