Located in the western portion of the Marra Athletics Complex, St. Bonaventure's softball field was renamed Joyce Field in September of 2015. The new name is the result of the leadership gift donated by Charles Joyce to the field's renovation.
St. Bonaventure president Sr. Margaret Carney, O.S.F., S.T.D., and Director of Athletics Tim Kenney revealed the new name during a kick-off event at the field.
Mr. Joyce, who is a resident of Wellsville, N.Y., and his family have been longtime benefactors of St. Bonaventure, particularly Mr. Joyce is president and CEO of Otis Eastern Service LLC in Wellsville, which is one of the leading oil and gas pipeline construction companies in the northeast U.S.
Carney and Kenney lauded Joyce and the many other donors who made the renovation possible. More than $800,000 has been raised to date in Phase II of St. Bonaventure’s Athletics Fields Project“Charlie’s generosity, along with numerous others, have made this day possible,” Kenney said. “Charlie saw the vision and necessity of this project from day one. He was an instrumental lead donor for Phase I of the field project and it is because of his continued generosity that we are celebrating the construction of Phase II.”
The renovations converted the field to A-Turf Titan, which is the same artificial turf that was installed on St. Bonaventure’s multi-purpose athletics field last summer. In addition, a new scoreboard, backstop, dugouts and perimeter fences were installed.
Previous additions to the facility included a spacious press box that houses the public address announcer and game operations personnel as well as the sound system.
