Tom 80' and Michelle Marra Athletics Fields Complex serves as the new and improved home field for St. Bonaventure's men's and women's soccer and women's lacrosse teams. Additionally, St. Bonaventure men's and women's club rugby teams also now play their home games on the new surface.
On Sept. 19, 2014, the University dedicated the outdoor athletics complex to Tom ’80 and his wife, Michelle, whose $1 million donation jump-started the campaign to renovate the facility. During the event, Mr. Marra, who played baseball at St. Bonaventure, spoke about his passion for athletics which spurred the couple to make their commitment to the project.
The upgrades to the multipurpose field were considered just the first phase of a University effort to improve all outdoor athletics facilities. Plans to convert the softball field to artificial turf as well as upgrade spectator seating, scoreboards and media/PR facilities are included in Phase II.
Located south of the Reilly Center, the artificial turf playing surface is the central piece of the Athletic Department's vast outdoor sports complex. The soccer/lacrosse field features A-turf playing surface, the same surface used at the Buffalo Bills' New Era Field. The renovations also included Musco lights, and the first night game was held Sept. 19, 2014 vs. Binghamton. The game, which was attended by more than 1,200 fans, saw the Bonnies women's soccer team capture a 3-1 victory.
All three teams occupy locker rooms in the nearby Reilly Center during their respective seasons with great proximity to the complex. Spectator parking is convenient to the complex and many fans choose to view games "tailgate-style" from the back of their cars or seated on blankets on the hillside above the fields. Beyond the complex is the Allegheny River and the picturesque Enchanted Mountains.
