Steve Mest has been a member of the Athletics staff since the fall of 1998. The 1991 St. Bonaventure graduate heads the external relations team of communications, marketing, fundraising, ticket sales, and corporate sales while also serving as the primary publicist and media relations contact (SID) for the men's basketball team.
Mest is also the department's liaison with Learfield Licensing and oversees athletics' branding and licensing. He also is the sport administrator for the men's and women's tennis programs.
In the 2016-17 fiscal year, external revenue grew to an all-time high $2,562,900, including record numbers for the Bonnies Athletic Fund (BAF) and Sixth Man Club.
From 2007-13, Mest managed all facets of the BAF. During that span, BAF membership doubled, growing from 508 members in 2007-08 to 1,020 members in 2012-13, the first time the BAF ever topped the 1,000-member plateau. The BAF also set a record with over $372,000 in gifts in 2012-13. In the summer of 2013, Mest spearheaded a rebranding of the BAF and launched the "15 By 16" campaign that set the goal of 1,500 members by 2016.
In addition, Mest led two fundraising campaigns that generated a total of over $500,000 to renovate both the men's and women's basketball locker rooms - the men's in 2008 and the women's in 2012-13.
From 2007 through the fall of 2009, Mest also was the sales director of the corporate partner program and handled all marketing, promotions, and special events.
Mest was Associate AD for Communications from 2005-07 and was Assistant AD for Communications from 1998-2005. During his eight years as primary publicist for the Bonnies' nationally-recognized men's basketball program, St. Bonaventure had 11 players earn All-Conference honors and three achieve All-District recognition. He worked with the 2000 NCAA Tournament team and two more clubs that played in the NIT.
Mest has served on the Department's Strategic Planning committee and chaired the Tip-Off Gala and Hall of Fame Selection committees. Also active within the Atlantic 10 Conference, Mest was the chair of the Atlantic 10 Conference's Golf Championship Committee in 2005-06. He chaired the A-10 Media, Marketing and Public Relations Committee in 2010-11 and remains a member of that group.
He is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).
Prior to joining St. Bonaventure, Mest worked at Allegheny (Pa.) College for six years as Sports Information Director. He also was assistant golf coach at Allegheny for two years, helping the program to top-five finishes at the NCAA Division III Championship both seasons and coaching six All-Americans.
A native of Reading, Pa., Mest earned a bachelor's degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from St. Bonaventure in 1991 and a master's degree in Professional Leadership from St. Bonaventure in 2004. He was a member of the Bonnies golf team for three years and captained the squad his senior year.
Mest and his wife Angela reside in Olean and have three children: Sam, Anna and Joe.
