Now in his 27th year at St. Bonaventure, a devoted administrator is what St. Bonaventure University has in Associate Director for Internal Operations Steve Campbell.
Campbell oversees all event management and operations for St. Bonaventure's athletics facilities, including the Reilly Center, the Marra Athletics Fields Complex and the St. Bonaventure golf course. He also supervises eight intercollegiate teams as well as the sports medicine staff, strength and conditioning program, conducts men's and women's basketball scheduling, oversees all facility projects and improvements and helps plan and run special events. During his tenure, Campbell has been directly involved in the installation of both Bob Lanier Court, Fred Handler Park, the Marra Athletics Fields Complex, the addition of the Hall Of Fame Suite and several other Reilly Center renovations and athletic facility upgrades.
In addition, to his day-to-day duties, Campbell has served on numerous Atlantic 10 Championship Committees including Golf, Softball, Swimming and Diving and most recently Baseball. He also acts as the Athletic Department liason with Campus Security, Maintenance and Special Events. Additionally, he currently has an active role in the long-term strategic planning process for the department.
The long time head coach of the men's golf team, Campbell retired from coaching after 15 seasons following the spring 2008 campaign. All told, the Bonnies captured 24 tournament titles and went a combined 1,271-1,027-39 when calculating head-to-head competition. Over that span, Campbell helped St. Bonaventure claim its own tournament title nine times, including three straight to end his career.
Each fall, Campbell directs the Leo E. Keenan Invitational at Olean's Bartlett Country Club, an intercollegiate tournament recognized as one of the best in the region. Campbell has been the host of the Invitational for over 20 years.
Campbell is also active in the community, having served on the YMCA Board of Directors and also the Allegany Village Planning Board. He has also dedicated his expertise to the SWNY-NWPA Men's Amateur Golf Tournament Committee for many years. He also currently serves on the Olean General Hospital Foundation Board.
A native of Olean, N.Y., Campbell came to St. Bonaventure in 1988 as the fitness center manager and added duties of assistant golf coach in 1989.
Campbell was appointed assistant director of athletics for facilities and internal operations in 1994, and promoted to associate AD in the spring of 1999.
Campbell graduated from Slippery Rock University in 1987. He earned a bachelor's degree in physical education with an emphasis in sports management and led the Slippery Rock golf squad as captain his senior year.
Steve and his wife, Chris, reside in Allegany with their son, Sean.
