Jason MacBain was promoted to Sports Information Director at St.
Bonaventure University by Director of Athletics Steve Watson
on May 1, 2012. At the age of just 25, MacBain is the youngest
Division I SID in the nation.
MacBain will oversee Athletics media relations, communications and
social media including the department’s website,
GoBonnies.com.
MacBain spent the past two years as Assistant Sports Information
Director under former SID Dallas Miller. During that time, he
served as the lead publicist for the Bonnies’ women’s
basketball team. The Bonnies advanced to the Sweet 16 this
past season, and along the way earned numerous media features
including ESPN.com, USA Today, the New York Post,
Yahoo! Sports and Time magazine. St. Bonaventure head coach
Jim Crowley was named the ESPN.com National Coach of the Year and
the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year.
MacBain also assisted Miller in a public relations campaign for
men’s basketball standout Andrew Nicholson which, in part,
helped Nicholson earn A-10 Player of the Year and honorable mention
All-America honors from the Associated Press.
Also over the past two years, MacBain helped lead the
department’s increasing presence in social and new media,
primarily YouTube, Twitter and Facebook.
MacBain also is a contributing editor for a commemorative book that
is being written about the 2011-12 St. Bonaventure basketball
season, A Legacy Defined.
MacBain graduated from St. Bonaventure in 2008 with a
bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication.
He went on to earn a master’s degree in integrated marketing
communications from St. Bonaventure in 2010. As an
undergraduate, he was editor-in-chief of the campus newspaper,
The Bona Venture, in 2007, and also served as manager of
the Bonnies’ baseball team.
