Dr. Heather McDivitt has kept the tradition of academic excellence among St. Bonaventure student-athletes since arriving at SBU.
During 2016-17, St. Bonaventure student-athletes set program records for both number of student-athletes to be named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll as well as overall cumulative GPA. Thirteen teams had a cumulative GPA above 3.0 during the Spring 2017 semester while 73 percent of student-athletes had a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
In 2015, the St. Bonaventure women’s basketball team ranked 23rd among all NCAA Division I programs in grade point average and 84 student-athletes were named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll. Both the men’s and women’s swimming teams also received Scholar All-America Team honors from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).
Prior to coming to St. Bonaventure, Dr. Heather McDivitt served as an Assistant Professor of Religion at Wingate University in North Carolina. She was also a member of the Academic Affairs Committee, International Studies Committee, Student Affairs Committee and Honor Council.
While at Wingate, McDivitt also taught support and study skill classes, coordinated study plans with coaches, started a bridge program for at-risk students and served on a committee for student success.
The Olean, N.Y. native completed her undergraduate work at Grove City College in Maryland before pursuing her Master’s degree in Education at SUNY Buffalo. She spent four years as an elementary school teacher before returning to school. She graduated from Princeton Theological Seminary with a Masters of Divinity degree. McDivitt completed her Ph.D. work at University of Edinburgh in Edinburgh, Scotland.
