Bill Williams Named #Bonnies Men's & Women's Diving Coach

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Bill Williams, a former diving coach at Northern Michigan University, has been selected as the head coach for the St. Bonaventure men’s and women’s diving teams.

Bill Williams begins his first season in charge of the St. Bonaventure men’s and women’s swimming and diving in 2013-14.

Williams spent the 2012-13 season as the head coach for Northern Michigan’s women’s diving program. He oversaw all training, practices, meets and recruiting efforts, and had a diver qualify for the Division II National Championship.

“I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to coach the diving program at St Bonaventure,” Williams said. “During my visit to campus it really felt like a great school and program to be a part of. I’m excited to be moving up from D-II to D-1 and work with a great group of student-athletes. I’m looking forward to working with both the men’s and women’s teams this year and continuing to build on what has become a great swimming and diving program.”

Prior to his time in the Upper Peninsula, Williams was the head diving coach for Holy Redeemer High School in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., from 2010-12 and had a diver named to the All-State Honorable Mention Team. During the 2011 summer, Williams worked alongside coaches from the United States Olympic Diving Team in North Carolina.

Also during the summers from 2010-12, Williams served as an intern at Clarion University’s Diving Camp where he coached divers on both the 1- and 3-meter boards. Williams has also previously been an assistant diving coach and assistant water polo coach for Wyoming Valley West High School in Plymouth, Pa.

In high school, Williams finished 14th in the state meet as a senior, garnering All-State Honorable Mention honors. He held multiple school and pool records, which have since been broken by a diver Williams has helped coach since he was 6 years old.

Williams graduated in just two-and-a-half years from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania in May of 2010 with a degree in Sport Administration.
