ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure
University’s tradition of producing quality student-athletes
continued during the 2012-13 season as SBU student-athletes posted
a cumulative GPA of 3.08 for the spring semester and 3.11 for the
entire academic year.
Both averages are higher than the general St. Bonaventure student
body. Nearly two-thirds of the 234 student-athletes (146 – 62
percent) finished the spring semester with a GPA of 3.0 or higher,
with 48 percent making the Dean’s List (minimum 3.25 GPA).
Thirty-one percent had at least a 3.5 GPA, and 14 student-athletes
recorded a perfect 4.0.
For the entire academic year, 61 percent (143 student-athletes)
posted a GPA of at least 3.0, 43 percent (102) were on the
Dean’s List and 26 percent (61) had a 3.5 or higher.
“We are extremely proud of our student-athletes for the
exemplary effort they continue to put forth in the classroom while
taking on the rigors of a Division-I schedule,” Athletic
Director Steve Watson said. “Their devotion to succeeding in
the classroom, in their athletic competitions and in the community
is a source of pride for not only the Athletic Department but for
the entire University.”
The women’s cross country team finished with the highest
team GPA for both the spring semester and the year, posting a 3.58
mark in the spring and 3.59 for the whole year. Women’s
tennis was just behind the runners as it wrapped up the spring with
a 3.53 GPA and a 3.45 total for the year.
Ten of Bonaventure’s 14 teams maintained above a 3.0 GPA for
both the spring semester and the overall year, and no team had
worse than a 2.64 GPA for the entire year. Men’s tennis
(2.92) and baseball (2.91) finished the year just shy of reaching
the 3.0 mark, which would have brought that total to 12 teams. The
highest-achieving men’s team for both the spring and the year
was golf, which had a 3.5 spring GPA and 3.41 overall GPA.
