ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Successful in competition and in the classroom, seven of St. Bonaventure’s 14 athletics teams have recorded multiyear Academic Progress Rates (APR) above the national average for their sport during the four-year period from 2006-07 to 2009-10.
The Academic Progress Rate (APR) is a term-by-term measure of eligibility and retention for Division I student-athletes that was developed as an early indicator of eventual graduation rates.
Each student-athlete earns one point for remaining at the institution and one point for being academically eligible. A team's total points are divided by points possible and multiplied by 1,000 to equal the team's APR score.
In total, baseball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's swimming & diving, men's and women's tennis, softball and women's basketball exceeded the national average for their sport over the previous four-year term.
Men’s basketball scored 894 over that period due to the early departure of several student athletes.
A full 61 percent of St. Bonaventure’s student-athletes posted grade point averages above 3.0 in the spring term, including 79 individuals above a 3.50 and nine with a perfect 4.0 mark. Female student-athletes earned an average GPA of 3.263 while male student-athletes average 3.030.
